Hope you all had a good time visiting with your families! But just in case you didn't and you were hoping for a mild concussion so you could forget the whole affair, come on down to the lake for the FOURTH game of Lake Gooseberry Shinny! Organizers Hazel Keating and Rosemary Stoker remain dictators of this intramural league, and it has nothing to do with their love of power. The team names, however, have changed again. Can you even remember what team you're on? How many different mascots could these girls possibly come up with?

Spring may be on the horizon, but the lake is still quite frozen. Mr. Thorn has still laid down neon yellow markers to indicate the areas where skaters are least likely to fall in and die, a red rectangle has been charmed into the ice to show the rink's boundaries, and two piles of snow connected by a thick blue line in the ice make up the goals.

Before they begin, the rules are explained to everyone. If you know what's good for you, you won't try to push your luck with these girls.

GENERAL RULES
  1. No wands on the ice except for the referee.
  2. Players must abide by the Personal Contact Policies
  3. Any player found to be ignoring the badge system will be immediately ejected from the game.
  4. Players are not allowed to administer contact beyond their own level. (ex. Green badges cannot check Red badges and vice-versa.)
  5. There are no positions or goalies.
  6. As the teams are so large, the game duration has been extended to two hours to allow each player ample time on the ice. Each player will spend at least 10 minutes on the bench (with 7–8 benched at a time).
  7. Helmets and mouthguards are mandatory for all players, any other padding is left to the discretion of the student. Figure skates are not allowed for safety reasons.
  8. For their safety, no students are allowed to cross the neon yellow markers.

As they arrive, each player is reminded of their team assignment and is given a pinny in the color of their team (red on orange for the Hat Trick Hydras and black on blue for the Blue Line Boggarts) and their Choose-Your-Bruise badge. Every badge is in the shape of a circle. They're also informed that, while the gameplay has gone back to normal hockey... there's a twist. In the shape of freshman judges.

HOW THIS WORKS:
  • You can still sign up any time in the season! The cut off is two days before individual games to give the organizers time to balance the teams, but the season is always open.
  • The puck drops at 9:30. Push the tiny thing towards the larger thing and try not to let anybody else get it!
  • Fill out the form posted here under the appropriate team heading to find out how your character did. Did they score? Did they get hurt? Did they fall through the ice? (Probably no one will fall through the ice. Probably.)
  • For this game, the goals and puck are charmed to be brightly-colored, rotating through red, yellow, and blue.
  • If the colors match when the puck crosses the goal posts, you score!
  • If they don't match, then you have a choice. Either opt for no point or a shootout.
  • But it's not a normal shootout. It's a three-legged shootout, where you and another person (determined by RNG) will be attached at the leg and given one chance each to earn your points.
  • If you both make the goal, you get double points! Anything less than that is worth nada.
  • The referee for this match is Zachary Zheng. He's way nicer than Clem.
  • There's a slight chance your character might get hurt! Healer Mufferaw is on the sidelines to handle any injuries the kids might sustain on the ice, but minor cuts and bruises might be handled by Pre-Healer Studies students!
  • Goals and injuries will be reported by either [personal profile] browbeats or [personal profile] lilwitchhazel
  • The final scores will be determined 7:00 PM MST Monday, January 29! Characters can still check in to see how they did and whether or not they were injured, but any goals they score will not count toward the final score.

» TEAM 1. THE HAT TRICK HYDRAS & TEAM 2. THE BLUE LINE BOGGARTS: Where the action happens. Check in here to see how your kid did!

» RESULTS: Progress reports will appear here when we hit around the halfway point and when the time is up.

» SPECTATORS & BENCHES: Each team has its own bench closest to the shore for players currently not on the ice, where 7-8 players will be benched at any given time. Temporary benches for spectators have been set up on the shore, and all students and staff are welcome to cheer on their favorite team. Blankets and warming charms are recommended, and hot chocolate is available. Snuggle up, wave flags, show blatant favoritism!

» AFTER THE GAME: Players have just enough time to stow their gear before filing into the cafeteria for lunch. Merciless gloating is basically tradition by this point.

» OOC: Questions, Comments, etc.
